Who We Are  

The principal and associates of 27ºNorth bring decades of experience in managing and solving business problems. Henry J. Cardello is the Founder and CEO of 27˚North. Hank brings a prolific background in foods, beverages and healthy ingredients, having served as a food & soft drink industry executive, CEO of various nutraceutical firms, and chairman of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill’s annual Global Obesity Business Forum.

Cardello was president of Sunkist Soft Drinks, Inc., vice president of marketing for Canada Dry, director of marketing for Coca-Cola USA, and a brand manager for Anheuser-Busch and General Mills. While CEO of several nutritional ingredient companies, Hank was identified as a “Top 10 Innovator” in the nutraceutical foods industry. He has advised or partnered with major food, beverage and nutrition corporations such as Coca-Cola, Campbell Soup, Frito-Lay, Hormel Foods, Nestlé, Pillsbury, Quaker Oats, Tropicana and Bayer Consumer Care.

Hank acts as Chairman for the Global Obesity Business Forum, an initiative sponsored by the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. The Forum brings together senior food industry executives and world renowned nutrition scientists and advocates to advance solutions to the obesity crisis. Corporate participants have included most of the major global food and beverage companies, among them Campbell Soup, Coca-Cola, Dr. Pepper-Snapple, Group Danone, General Mills, Kellogg’s, Kraft Foods, Nestlé, McDonald's and Unilever.

Cardello is the author of Stuffed: An Insider’s Look at Who’s (Really) Making America Fat. The book will be published in late January, 2009 by HarperCollins/Ecco. The book’s core premise is that the food industry actually has the most to gain from solving the obesity crisis – improving their bottom lines, gaining competitive advantage and avoiding harmful regulatory measures. Specific strategies are advanced showing corporations how to improve their financial and marketing performance while keeping their customers healthy and coming back.

Hank has been a featured speaker at several industry and association forums and has served as an Executive Fellow for the American Marketing Association. He currently sits on the Board of Hormel Health Technology LLC and is Chairman of Source Food Technology, Inc. He has been a director for both the National Executive Committee of the Wharton Alumni Association and the Wharton Club of Atlanta and has sat on the Boards of Legacy Securities Corporation, an investment banking firm, and the College of Business at James Madison University.

Mr. Cardello’s undergraduate degree was awarded Magna Cum Laude in materials science and metallurgy from Lehigh University. He holds an MBA in marketing from the Wharton Graduate School, University of Pennsylvania.

Mr. Cardello is joined by several food, beverage and nutritional experts in providing content deep workshops and comprehensive consulting engagements.
